Shock Absorber Type 641 Competition
The KTM 890 Adventure | R2 Adventure comes equipped with linear fork springs as standard. However, these springs tend to feel softer under load — for example, during braking — making the suspension feel unbalanced and reducing stability. The Wilbers upgrade replaces these with progressive, stiffer springs that deliver better feedback and enhanced safety.
The stock rear shock uses a very hard spring that compresses minimally, even with 200 mm of travel. The Wilbers version employs a softer spring paired with optimized rebound and compression damping, greatly improving comfort, control, and stability.
The suspension geometry on both the front and rear axles is sensibly optimized in the Wilbers setup. The stock suspension offers slightly too little negative spring travel, so the Wilbers shock is designed a bit longer while maintaining the original seat height for better ride balance.
This shock absorber connects its compression tank to the main body using a flexible steel hose, making it an ideal solution for motorcycles with limited installation space. The hose can be routed freely where space and airflow allow — such as along the rear frame — providing extra cooling. The high- and low-speed compression adjusters, each with 22 clicks, are conveniently accessible. Rebound damping can be tuned via an open-bleed system with 22 clicks, and the spring preload is continuously adjustable.
