Shock Absorber Type 640 Road
Customer feedback on the Ducati Desert X revealed that the standard version of the motorcycle has extremely high negative suspension travel in the rear shock absorber. This can cause stability issues — when fully loaded, the bike may no longer stand securely on the side stand or may even risk tipping over to the opposite side.
To address this, the Wilbers solution reduces the negative spring travel and slightly lengthens the shock absorber, resulting in a ride height increase of approximately 15 mm. This modification improves handling, stability, and overall safety.
The stock rear shock absorber is fitted with a relatively hard spring that compresses very little over potholes or bumps. The Wilbers conversion replaces this with a slightly softer spring, complemented by optimized rebound and compression damping. The result is a more stable motorcycle with greater ride comfort and traction.
The fork, delivered with linear springs as standard, is upgraded in the Wilbers solution to progressive fork springs combined with SKF oil seals and dust caps. This significantly improves responsiveness and provides more reserve in the second spring rate compared to the standard setup.
The basic edition of the Wilbers Adjustline mono shock absorber features the same advanced technology as the more complex versions. The only difference is the omission of the compression reservoir and the ability to adjust high- and low-speed compression. Despite this, it makes no compromises in response behavior or durability. The radial piston design, wet-run operation, and Teflon-guided self-aligning bearings redefine the quality standard of a mono shock. As usual, the spring preload is continuously adjustable, and rebound damping can be set via an open-bleed system in 22 clicks. The shock absorber can also be retrofitted with a variety of Wilbers accessories.
