Shock Absorber Type 640 Road
The KTM 890 Adventure | R2 Adventure comes equipped with linear fork springs as standard. However, these stock springs tend to feel softer under load — for example, when braking — which makes the suspension feel unbalanced and reduces overall stability and riding safety.
The Wilbers solution replaces these with progressive, slightly stiffer springs that deliver much better feedback and significantly improve safety and control.
From the factory, KTM equips the rear shock with a relatively hard spring that barely compresses over bumps or potholes, even with its substantial 200 mm of suspension travel. The Wilbers setup uses a softer spring with precisely adjusted rebound and compression damping, noticeably increasing comfort, stability, and riding confidence.
The suspension geometry at both the front and rear axles is carefully optimized in the Wilbers configuration. The stock setup offers slightly too little negative spring travel, so the Wilbers shock is designed a bit longer while maintaining the same seat height. The result is a more composed, predictable ride.
The basic edition of the Wilbers Adjustline mono shock absorber incorporates the same advanced technology as the more complex models. The only difference is the omission of the compression reservoir and, therefore, the ability to adjust high- and low-speed compression. Despite this, it makes no compromises in response behavior or durability. The radial piston, wet-run operation, and Teflon-guided self-aligning bearings redefine the standard for shock quality. As usual, the spring preload can be continuously adjusted, and the rebound damping can be fine-tuned via an open-bleed system in 22 clicks. The shock absorber can also be retrofitted with numerous Wilbers accessories.
