Shock Absorber Type 640 Road
In its stock configuration, the vehicle exhibits excessive damping in the fork but insufficient damping in the rear shock absorber. This imbalance reduces direct road feedback and overall riding precision.
The original fork was equipped with linear springs, which Wilbers replaces with progressive fork springs. This upgrade delivers a much more responsive initial reaction and greater reserve in the second, firmer spring rate compared to the standard setup. At the same time, adjustments to the fork oil and air chamber further refine the suspension’s responsiveness and balance.
The suspension geometry on both the front and rear axles has been sensibly optimized through adjustments to the negative spring deflection. The factory setup featured slightly excessive negative travel; by shortening the shock absorber slightly, the original seat height is maintained while improving suspension dynamics. Additionally, rebound and compression damping have been optimized for better control and ride quality.
These refinements collectively provide improved comfort, sharper handling, and enhanced safety for the rider.
The basic edition of the Wilbers Adjustline mono shock absorber features the same advanced technology as the more complex versions. The only difference is the omission of the compression reservoir and, therefore, the ability to adjust high- and low-speed compression. Despite this, it makes no compromises in response behavior or durability. The radial piston, wet-run operation, and Teflon-guided self-aligning bearings redefine the standard for shock absorber quality. As usual, the spring preload can be continuously adjusted, and the rebound damping can be fine-tuned via an open-bleed system in 22 clicks. The shock absorber can also be retrofitted with numerous Wilbers accessories.
